Hidcote Manor and Gardens of the Cotswolds,
Richmond Free Library, 201 Bridge Street, Richmond VT

Join the GMC Burlington Section and presenter Charlotte Albers for a slide show and talk about Hidcote Manor, a masterpiece of Arts and Crafts gardening in rural Gloucestershire, in the British Cotswolds. Characterized by hedged rooms, stunning vistas and lavish plantings, Hidcote was developed by Major Lawrence Johnston, an American of legendary vision, plantsmanship, and generosity. An avid plant-hunter, Lawrence Johnston searched the world for unusual and exotic plants to fill his garden. By the time he gave it to the National Trust in 1948, Hidcote had become one of England's most important and popular gardens and remains so today. Come hear the story of this fascinating estate and see other notable gardens around the Cotswolds region from her recent visit in May 2018. Charlotte Albers is a landscape designer and consultant who speaks widely about plants and garden design. $5 GMC members, $8 others.
