Baby Got Books

Bummed that Baby Got Books was cancelled due to weather last Wednesday? Us, too! But this Wednesday we'll be off and running (or scooting, or crawling, or rolling, or wherever your child is, developmentally)! A rule of thumb regarding snow: if school is cancelled due to weather, we will not ask you to take your child out on the roads, either. Do check for school closings as we make our way through these last several weeks of winter. Check our Facebook and Instagram pages for the latest updates.

According to Harvard University's Center on the Developing Child, "Early experiences affect the quality of [the basic] architecture [of the brain] by establishing either a sturdy or a fragile foundation for all of the learning, health and behavior that follow. In the first few years of life, more than 1 million new neural connections are formed every second. […] Sensory pathways like those for basic vision and hearing are the first to develop, followed by early language skills and higher cognitive functions."

The Varnum Memorial library is excited to announce our latest weekly program: Baby Got Books, a lapsit-style story time for wee ones. We aim to focus on supporting healthy early childhood development for all children ages 0-18 months within our community.

Join Amber for Nursery rhymes, movement activities, songs, stories, and finger plays proven to promote early literacy, language development, and communication skills. Likewise, this program supports blossoming social and emotional intelligence within the youngest of our community members.

Ages birth to 18 months with a parent or caregiver. Wednesdays from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

For more information, call 644-2117. The Varnum Memorial Library is located at 194 Main Street in Jeffersonville.
