Hannah Miller, Kyshona Armstrong and Mary Bragg, three unaffiliated but complementary Nashville singer-songwriters come together to perform at the York Street Meeting House in Lyndon on February 19, presenting a mix of Blues, Folk, Country and a touch of Gospel.
"Alabama-raised, Nashville-based singer/songwriter Hannah Miller has quietly built a reputation and growing following for her thoughtful, lovingly rendered folk/pop that also taps into her roots of gospel and soulful Americana. Miller's almost dispassionate vocal style, reminiscent at times of the languid cool of Cowboy Junkies' Margot Timmons, communicates as simply and effectively as a knowing glance" says Direct Current. One of Miller's videos, Promise Land, has had 19 million views.
Originally focusing on the oboe and, interestingly, steel drums, Kyshona Armstrong shifted to acoustic guitar, songwriting and vocals as she began offering music therapy to incarcerated and institutionalized adults and school children with emotional behavior disorders. Since moving to Nashville, Kyshona has been recognized by NPR's World Café in its Best Music Of 2017-World Cafe Nashville: "Former music therapist Kyshona Armstrong has been called upon to represent for soul and gospel in roots, rock and folk lineups and to bring singer-songwriter sensibilities to R&B bills. But wherever she plants her feet, she does so with righteous conviction and a strong sense of her own voice."
Also included in NPR's Best Music Of 2017-World Cafe Nashville, "Georgia-born Mary Bragg knocked around New York City for a decade before deciding that Nashville was where her sublime distilling of southern grit belonged. After making the move, she recorded the way many resourceful locals do: in a home studio, this one housed in a converted barn." Rolling Stone Country comments, "like the long-lost ballad Patsy Cline never got to croon, 'I Thought You Were Somebody Else' mixes classic country twang with broken-hearted sentiment and light touches of pedal steel."
The recently restored York Street Meeting House is located at 153 York Street in Lyndon. The concert begins at 7:00 pm and tickets are available at the door. Adults $15; children under 13 free.
