This Tuesday, Feb 19, 6pm at U32, please come for a crucial meeting of all voters in Middlesex, Berlin, Calais, East Montpelier, and Worcester, on what happens next with our school boards. There was a court hearing yesterday afternoon on the legality of forced mergers (the State's plan to forcibly dissolve our local school boards, against the will of the people). The judge will issue a ruling soon.
In the meanwhile, this Tuesday, the voters are being asked to decide whether to give certain powers to merged boards, whether to vote on members of the new board by Australian ballot or from the floor, whether to authorize the new board to spend money, and other things. If you want to have a say in any of this, then come vote. Each and every vote counts.
On a related note, many thanks to the town clerks, including ours, for the recent post defending democracy and the right of voters to control what happens this Tuesday. My family is grateful we have such wonderful town clerks.
So mark your calendars: "Democracy" this Tuesday, Feb 19, 6pm at U32 (930 Gallison Hill Rd, East Montpelier).
