The Chandler Center for the Arts will offer a storytelling workshop program during March and April. Directing the program will be Zoë Newmarco, staff writer at The Herald, and Charlie McMeekin, a longtime theater director and English teacher.
"My work with the Veterans Telling Project reignited a passion in me to encourage and help people develop and share their stories," said McMeekin. "Each of us is full of stories, and this workshop will allow participants to explore and share some of theirs with the rest of the group, and perhaps even in some kind of public performance!
"Our topic will change each time we meet, but will always have a Vermont focus," he added. "We'll begin with 'a personal tale of the Tunbridge Fair,' and will share other possible topics at our first gathering."
Newmarco noted that, "Stories allow us to both share our own unique experience, and find common ground with our neighbors and community members. This will be a lovely time to build connections, and share our voices."
Due to the generosity of the Tikkun Olam Fund, participation will be free.
"Your investment will be your stories and your sharing," said McMeekin. "Our first gathering will be Sunday afternoon, March 3, from 1-3 p.m. in the Esther Mesh room at the Chandler Center for the Arts. Come with a written or verbal story to share with the group."
Three other Sunday afternoons in March and April are scheduled, and participants are asked to be regular in attendance. People of all ages are encouraged to join.
