Cally is a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many who spent 30 years in public service working with elementary school children and their family's in central Vermont. She had to leave her career when she was diagnosed with leukemia in 2017. A blood stem cell transplant was her best option for a cure - but there wasn't a matching donor on the registry. Cally instead went with a half-match donation from her daughter. But now she's fighting complications and a second donation - this time from an unrelated donor - may be her only chance to get back to her family and a normal life.
But she still doesn't have a matching donor on the registry. Her diverse Lebanese/Syrian/European heritage makes it harder to find a donor.
Cally and her family want to increase the number of Middle Eastern donors on the registry to increase the odds for patients like her. Can you help? All it takes is a cheek swab!!
PLEASE consider stopping by the Capital Plaza Executive Boardroom (@ 100 State St.) on Tuesday, February 19th between 11:30 - 6:00 to learn more, speak with Be The Match team members, and maybe even sign up to join the registry. Just by the simple act of donating blood - YOU could be the cure someone is waiting for!
If you can't make it, please visit: join.bethematch.org/CALLYVT and sign up to receive a cheek swab kit and information in the mail.
Thank you so much!
