The opening reception, A.K.A. an ART PARTY, for "Rutland: Real and Imagined," an art show curated by Stephen M. Schaub, will be on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at The Alley Gallery, Center St. Rutland, VT.
Free wine, light refreshments, live music by Gary Schmidt, and art by Arthur Gilman, Ric Kasini Kadour, Carol McGorry, Don Ross, Eve Ogden Schaub, Stephen Schaub, Bob Van Degna, and Susan Weiss, will invite community members to further explore the meaning of our beautiful city of Rutland.
How do we understand a community? How do we construct a sense of place? Often when one wants to know a place, they start by looking at photographs of it. Photography can convey a feel for a place, relay a sense of intimacy, or bear its history and, possibly, its future. It can tell a story. In the hands of an artist, a photograph can do more than tell you what a place looks like. It can tell you how a place is. For "Rutland: Real and Imagined," curator Stephen Schaub invited eight internationally-recognized artists, all of whom work with the photographic image, to investigate Rutland's geography, history, and people to create artwork that tells a story about Rutland.
The exhibition, "Rutland: Real and Imagined," will be on view at The Alley Gallery from Thursday, January 31, 2019 through Saturday, March 9, 2019. This event is FREE and open to the public.
