On Friday, March 14, at 8:00 p.m. in the Vermont Jazz Center performance space at the Cotton Mill Hill complex, Friends of Music at Guilford presents a "World Music & Jazz Roots" concert benefiting its annual Music Enrichment Program at Guilford Central School. Supported in part by the Max Y. Seaton Trust for the past six seasons, the 3-day school residency in "Rhythms for Drums, Voices, and Other Instruments" will be led by percussionist Todd Roach and clarinetist/vocal coach Anna Patton on March 12-14. The Friday concert features two ensembles drawing on jazz and classical foundations as well as traditional instrumental and vocal music from around the world. The first set features percussionist Roach and NYC-based musicians Brandon Terzic (guitar, Arabic Oud, Turkish Saz, and Malian Jalli Ngoni) and Kane Mathis (Kora, an African harp, as well as Oud, guitar, and vocals in Mandinkin, a language from West Africa). The second set is by the As Yet Quintet, with Anna Patton, clarinet and vocals; Charlie Schneeweis, trumpet; VJC artistic and executive director Eugene Uman, piano; Julian Gerstin, Caribbean and African percussion; and Todd Roach, Middle Eastern and North African percussion. Tickets are $15 general admission, $5 for students 16 and under. Further info: (802) 254-3600; office@fomag.org or www.fomag.org.
