2020 marks the 100 year anniversary of the establishment of the Springfield Landing Field as the first officially approved airport in Vermont. On February 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm, Bruce Johnson and Peter MacGillivray will present a program at the Springfield Art and Historical Society, 65 Route 106, North Springfield. They will take a look back at some of the highlights of the past century at the Springfield Airport.
The airport has played an important role in Springfield's economic life as was envisioned by James Hartness in the early days of the aviation era. From biplanes and gliders to the modern business jets, many unusual aircraft and their pilots and passengers have landed and departed from the runways of Hartness State airport. With the longest runway in Vermont with the exception of Burlington International airport, Springfield is able to provide service to most aircraft. We encourage you to attend and if you have pictures, stories and other memorabilia, please bring them with you to share and to help us to better prepare to mark the 100 year anniversary as a very special event
This program is free and open to all. For more information call 802-886-7935 or email sahs@vermontel.net.
