League of Women Voters Discuss Ranked Choice Voting

Past event
Feb 3, 2019, 3:30 to 5 PM

Members of the League of Women Voters for our region usually meet on the first Sunday of the month, at 3:30 PM at the United Comunity Church (formerly North Church) on Main Street in St. Johnsbury.

This month, Sunday, Feb. 3, at 3:30 we will be discussing Ranked Choice Voting, which may be taken up by the VT Legislature again this year. Places that have used RCV for years tend to really like it, but education is key. If voters don't understand why honesty is the best strategy for the best outcome, and instead try to game the system, they can be quite discouraged about the outcome. In those places, where it is implemented with insufficient voter education, it may be quickly abandoned.

Come learn about the pros and cons of ranked choice voting, and how it compares to other options for elections, including the plurality system that we use now in many of our elections. Then we'd love to hear your thoughts on how to educate voters and legislators about it.
