West River Valley Thrives will host a presentation by Windham County Sheriff's Deputy, Michael Roj, on Wednesday, January 30, from 5:30 - 6:45 PM, at the Leland & Gray Middle and High School. Michael Roj is a retired Vermont State Police Sergeant and current Windham County Highway Safety Task Force Coordinator with the Windham County Sheriff's Office. He will facilitate a conversation on the topic of marijuana, to include a review of the current marijuana law, various resources to support underage education and prevention, and how legalization is likely to impact our communities.
In 2014, Mike founded the Enhanced Teen Driver Safety Program. This proactive initiative, which is the only one of its kind in New England, provides the opportunity for a skilled and experienced highway safety deputy to be introduced into driver education programs taught throughout southern Vermont. Mike supports the educational process by offering students proactive highway safety techniques in a relaxed classroom setting.

During Deputy Roj's career with VSP, he held the title of Supervisor of Traffic Operations for the southern half of Vermont. During this decade-long assignment, he received extensive training on highway safety strategies to include drug and alcohol prevention. After retiring from VSP, he used this knowledge as a foundation for the Enhanced Teen Driver Safety Program and various community events.
