Eighth Annual Tell Off: Extemporaneous Storytelling Tournament of Champions!
Some folks may remember this event being in Barre Town the past couple of years, but this Friday Jan 25 you can find it at the American Legion, 16 Stowe Street, in downtown Waterbury at 8:00pm. The Tell Off takes the monthly winners of Extempo--that's Central Vermont's storytelling series--and pits them one at a time on stage, each telling a new, ten-minute, first-person, true story...without using any notes or reading. At this year's Tell Off, you'll hear the real-life adventures, foibles, & challenges of: Lori Cohen (Barre Town), Scott Labun (Newbury), Josie Leavitt (Grand Isle), Jill Missal (Essex), Leslie Ruster (Marshfield), & Ray VanVoorhis (Waterbury). Come listen to Vermonters recount with humor, passion, & heart. Your faith in humanity might just be rejuvenated and restored...and you get to vote for your favorite story!
$10 admission, and half of all proceeds--after $600 prize money is awarded--benefits Waterbury Recreation. The Tell Off marks opening night of Winterfest, ten days of events & activities in the Town of Waterbury. There's plenty of seating in the American Legion and an inexpensive cash bar. (Note: This year's Tell Off is roughly 'family friendly,' with no story rated any more 'adult' than PG-13. Middleschoolers with their parents, and older kids, welcome at this one!)
