Werner, Miriam, and I were saddened to learn of the poet Mary Oliver's recent passing. Her poetry has been an integral part of our lives for many years, touching in to the beauty of the earth and nature and bringing us laughter, tears, comfort, joy, and endless inspiration. This Sunday, we are hosting a Gathering of Gratitude for Mary's life and work. All are welcome, from those who have been touched by her poems for their whole lives to those who have never heard of her before. Bring your favorite poem(s) to share, and/or a story of how her work has intersected with your life. Or just come to listen. Snacks/drinks to share are welcome but not required.

From "The Summer Day" by Mary Oliver:
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?
