I'm a student at GMTCC and Craftsbury Academy. My teacher has started a campaign to send donated fire gear to firefighters in Tanzania. We are doing a fundraiser for his campaign which we need your help with. Please come and support this effort, the school, and me.
Please come to our fundraising dinner held at the Green Mtn.Technology and Career Center in Hyde Park to support the efforts of sending donated fire gear to fire departments in Tanzania, Africa. The dinner will be from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday January 31st.The ticket cost is $16, $8 for kids under 12, $30 for a couple, and $40 for a family of 4.
Come to enjoy great food, students, and a silent auction. Tanzania has the firefighters but not the gear. Help get this gear to them in a very delicious way.
If you can join us, please RSVP to Erica at 19ecorrow@gmtcc.net. If you want more information or cannot attend on the 31st but would still like to help, please visit: https://www.gofundme.com/fire-gear-for-africa
Background info??????
A member of our community and the Waterbury Fire Department (Brian Schwartz) went on a school trip this past summer to Iringa, Tanzania. While he was there with the students, he decided to visit the local fire department.
The city of Iringa is located in Western Tanzania and home to almost 200,000 people. This city has only 27 active firefighters and their personal protective gear is limited. The entire department has barely 4 full sets of fire gear, one pair of fire boots, and no fire gloves. This lack of gear and equipment limits their ability to train, respond, and save lives.
Brian has received an overwhelming response from fire departments from all over Vermont. His task now is to raise funds to ship a container of all the donated gear to Tanzania.
