In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 90th birthday, Depictions of a Dream offers a musical tribute to MLK's life and legacy. The Vermont Youth Orchestra performs Duke Ellington's Les Trois Rois Noirs (Three Black Kings) alongside the expressive second movement from Antonín Dvořák's Ninth Symphony From the New World, the basis for the spiritual "Goin' Home." Guest artist Counterpoint vocal ensemble presents a suite of songs associated with the Civil Rights movement.

This concert serves as the official launch of the Vermont Humanities Council's 2019 Vermont Reads program. Images and text from this year's book selection March: Book One by John Lewis, with Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell, will be woven throughout the performance, narrated by Reuben Jackson. We hope you will join us to celebrate the important lessons of the Civil Rights movement: community, diversity, equality.
