Night Sky Viewing

Past event
Jan 28, 2019, 6:30 to 8:30 PM

The Waterbury Public Library and Waterbury Winterfest, bring you "Starry, Starry Night," a nighttime viewing experience of the night sky with the Vermont Astronomical Society on Monday evening, January 28th from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Dac Rowe Field in Waterbury, courtesy of the Rec Department.

The Waterbury Library is the proud owner of a new Orion StarBlast Astro Reflector Telescope that will be available for loan for patrons, just like you would check out a book. To kick off the library's loaner program, the VAS will be setting up a half dozen telescopes for exploration of the numerous, wonderful deep-space objects and leading participants through the how-to's of using the telescopes at this Starry Night event.

The moon will be a waning crescent moon, so if the weather conditions are favorable many constellations should be visible. If the night is cloudy or snowy, the library will hold the event on Tuesday, January 29th at the same time and place (Dac Rowe Field from 6:30-8:30 pm.) The library will be open during the viewing, for folks to warm themselves. If the weather precludes viewing on both nights, the VAS will hold a presentation inside the library's SAL room on Tuesday, the 29th at 6:30 pm.

Park in the library's parking lot and walk down to the field as there is no parking at Dac Rowe. Bring a flashlight or headlamp as the lights will be off in the field for optimum viewing.

The library will have information on the Orion's StarBlast Telescope and the loaner program. For more information call 244-7036 or email Judi at judi@waterburypubliclibrary.com
