Inside walking venue opening in Newport!

A new opportunity for indoor walking. The North Country Career Center will open its doors four times a week for community members interested in a safe dry walking environment. Because of the school day, cleaning, schedules, and staffing, the hours are limited, but we hope that perhaps these times can become part of your weekly routine. There are two marked loops. One without stairs that is 1 tenth of a mile. And one with stairs that is 1 eighth of a mile.

Evenings - Monday & Thursday 5:30 – 7:30 pm
Mornings - Tuesday & Friday 6:00 – 7:00 am

We chose these hours based on staffing, the school, day, and the cleaning schedule – but once we get some participants and hear some feedback, we may be able to adjust the schedule.

The ribbon-cutting for our indoor walking trails is Thursday March 13th at 5:30 pm. We are hoping that some of you (or all of you) will join us for our inaugural walk. The more people that take advantage of this opportunity, the more hours we may be able to offer. All interested participants walk for free, we will be registering people through NCCC Adult Education and photo-copying a photo ID for insurance purposes, so please have something with you on the 13th.

I know it is a little late in the season, I wish we could have started this in November, but whatever we learn from this month of walking we can make next winter even better.
