Weston 2019 Film Series at Walker Farm Theatre
First Film: January 11 7:00 Sophie Scholl: The Final Days
Oscar nominee and winner of numerous international film awards directed by Marc Rothemund and written by Fred Breinersdorfer. "A gripping, powerful film about the last days in the life of Sophie Scholl, a 21-year-old member of the anti-Nazi non-violent student resistance group, White Rose."
"This finely judged, beautifully played little film shows us heroism of a different kind: an unshakeable belief in justice, loyalty to personal conscience, and conviction unto death of the reality of the idea of freedom.
The White Rose was an organization of students, mainly around Munich, during the years 1942-1943, though there were fringe elements that eluded capture by the authorities that survived until the end of the war. Based on fact - transcripts of Scholl's actual interrogation and trial are used and many of those survivors contribute to this story." Imb review.
"It contains no artificial suspense or drama,(however) the effect of this scene is so powerful that I leaned forward like a jury member, wanting her to get away with it..." Roger Ebert
