Please join us Friday January, 18th 6:30-8:30pm at The Hive (located in Camp Meade) for the opening reception of "Divide", a selection of landscape paintings by local artist Lydia Gatzow. Event is free (so is the cheese and wine).
Lydia's current oil paintings explore the experience of atmospheric space animated by a tactile expressionistic surface that echoes the chaotic, and the natural sublime. The landscape scenes are all shaped by climate and the expansive beauty of her particular surroundings. The ambiguity of form and simplified thick directional brush strokes aim to create a condensed mood in the paintings reflecting the climate and energy of natural features, while at the same time drawing focus to the monumental aspects of the composition, shapes of color, and intersections of light. Her inspiration stems from the concept of sacred space and environmental awareness. As an organic farmer, gardener, and vegan, Lydia's paintings reflect her deep relationship to the earth and her desire to heal the planet and each other.
