Healing the Great Divide, Finding Common Ground
Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday Event
Monday. January 21st
Second Congregational Church, Hillside St., Bennington
6 pm- Candlelight Vigil and singing in the Church Courtyard followed by fellowship, hot cider and cookies
6:45 pm- Evening Program: We are planning to celebrate and honor the legacy of Dr. King by exploring ways that we as individuals, families and communities can start bridging the deep and toxic divide that this country is experiencing. Though we may have little influence on what is happening in Washington, we do have power over our own actions and reactions. In addition to marking the day in honor of Dr. King, we will explore concrete methods to gain knowledge and skills in having difficult conversations with those with whom we differ. Plans will be shared for year-long action steps that attendees can sign up for including mediation skills training, a book read and discussion on having Difficult Conversations, a community intervention called Better Angels and access to Peace Circles. Please come and help us shore up our commitment to "be the change you wish to see in the world" (Gandhi).
