Norwich University will honor former United States President George H.W. Bush with an Echo Taps Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at 10 p.m. on the Upper Parade Ground.
Echo Taps is a ceremony to show respect for, and honor fallen cadets, cadet alumni, alumni or Norwich University friends. It is a solemn ceremony meant to emulate a military memorial service. The ceremony will include a formation of the Corps, buglers, and a firing detail to carry out the ceremony.
The ceremony will begin at 10:00 p.m., and all barracks lights, on the UP side, will be turned off. The UP will remain an area of complete silence until 11:00 p.m. The firing detail will fire three volleys, and the buglers will then sound Echo Taps.
The Northfield and Norwich communities may respectfully attend the ceremony, whilst not hindering the ceremony's proceedings, and dressed appropriately. They should stand on the left or right side of Jackman Hall to observe the ceremony. Please plan to arrive early, as the lights on the UP will be turned off for the ceremony.
