Don't forget to Vote Tuesday! Here is a repeat of my position:
I am Carol B. Tremble. I served on the South Hero Selectboard for 15 years ending in 2003 and one might wonder why I am running for the position again so here is my explanation.
I have lived in Vermont my whole life and the last 40 years here in South Hero. I love this community and raised my three sons here and now my grandchildren are attending Folsom school. South Hero is a wonderful place and I have a few more visions for improving the community that have not yet been completed. I am rather an impatient person and would like to see some of the planned projects implemented before I die. My platform is simple and following are 3 things I will work to accomplish:
1. I believe a community is made stronger and healthier when places are created to encourage walking and bicycling. I would love to see sidewalks or wider shoulders put on South Street and all our town roads to make them safe places to walk for all ages. Studies have shown that when streets are made safe for non-motorized transportation, fewer cars are on the road which lowers carbon emissions, reduces traffic congestion and helps make a healthier community where people exercise more often.
2. I would like to see all town roads paved. If the roads were paved, tax dollars would be saved as there could be a smaller road department. There would be no need for grading or salting the roads in the summer and therefore no need to own and maintain a grader. Winter maintenance would be easier too because snow melts quicker on paved roads.
3. I will work to implement the traffic calming plan which was designed many years ago to reduce the speed of traffic traveling through our village and create a town center.
I encourage everyone to vote on town meeting day, Tuesday, March 4th, and this is my attempt to help make you an informed voter.
