Write a Letter, Change a Life: Join in with the local Green Mountain Amnesty International group's annual Write for Rights Campaign. This year's 11 cases are all women human rights defenders under threat, like Atena Daemi, jailed in Iran for protesting executions. You can help them — join us on Saturday morning, December 8, 2018 at the Hyde Park Library from 10 to 12. Drop in any time, write a letter or simply sign one already written. This is Amnesty's largest annual human rights campaign.

People like you around the world write letters on behalf of people who need urgent help. Through the power of collective action, these letters convince government officials to free people unjustly imprisoned and end other abuses.
Every year to mark Human Rights Day in early December, hundreds of thousands of people around the world send a letter or sign an online petition on behalf of someone they've never met, as part of this campaign. These messages help convince government officials to release people imprisoned for expressing their opinion (called "prisoners of conscience" by Amnesty), support human rights defenders, stop torture, commute death sentences, and end other human rights abuses.
Letter writing has always been at the heart of Amnesty International's human rights campaigning, and 60+ years of human rights activism shows that it still works. But volume matters: the more participants in Write for Rights, the more letters and e-mail messages are generated, therefore increasing pressure and influence on government officials.
