The Vermont Choral Union, under the new direction of Lisa Jablow, is pleased to present its annual holiday concert program on December 1 (in St Albans) and December 8, 2018 (in Burlington), both at 7:30pm.
The ensemble of community-based singers (6 from Underhill & Jericho) will perform a program of inspirational classical holiday pieces spanning the centuries. The concert is book-ended with pieces to celebrate the centennial of Leonard Bernstein's birth. Included are familiar sacred texts for the holiday season set by Renaissance, Romantic, turn-of-the-century, and contemporary composers Giovanni Maria Nanino, Luca Marenzio, Johannes Brahms, Guiseppe Verdi, François-Auguste Gevaert, Albert Kranz, Benjamin Britten, and Karl Jenkins. The Choral Union will also present a couple of premieres: the Vermont premiere of Angelus, an unpublished work by the late Charles Martin Loeffler, and the premiere of Adeste Fideles, a traditional 17th-century text arranged by VCU tenor Maarten van Ryckevorsel.
