The Arsonists at the Valley Players

Past event

The Valley Players will present The Arsonists by Max Frisch, Fridays-Sundays Nov. 30 through Dec.16. Show time will be 7:30 on Friday and Saturday, and 3:00 on Sunday, at the Valley Players Theater, 4254 Main Street, Waitsfield, Vermont.

The story of the play concerns Gottlieb Biedermann (Liam Hannon, Duxbury), who thinks his world could go up in flames at any moment. He is fortunate to have had some recent success in business, but questions the loyalty of his associate of twelve years. His wife Babette (Danielle Howes, Moretown) is happy enough but Biedermann just can't help but worry about keeping her, and himself, safe at night. With a rash of intentional fires burning throughout the city and the possibility of an arsonist knocking on his very door, Gottlieb must reconcile his idea of humanity and the human instinct of survival. The play features Madison Commo (Moretown) as Anna, Sarah McDougal (Warren) as Schmitz. Dvora Zipkin (Worcester) and Mikki Nucci (Waitsfield) also play a variety of roles. Kate O'Neill (Moretown) is the Stage Manager, and the play is produced by Doug Bergstein (Warren) and directed by Louis Bronson (Waitsfield).

Featuring dark humor, witty dialogue, and poignant societal commentary, Max Frisch's play, written in 1958 and adapted by Alistair Beaton in 2007, is sure to leave you thinking about the world we live in and the one we came from. Tickets are $14 for evenings and $12 for matinees, and are available in advance through the Valley Players website (valleyplayers.com), and reservations for day of show payment are accepted by calling 802-583-1674 or by emailing valleyplayers@madriver.com.
