Vermont author and activist Peter Gould will read from his non-fiction book about the back-to-the-land movement, "Horse-Drawn Yogurt: Stories from Total Loss Farm," at the Brown Library at Sterling College on Friday, December 7, at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and there will be copies of the book for sale and signing.

Horse-Drawn Yogurt (Green Writers Press, 2017) is his first published non-fiction book. It's a collection of true-life stories of a young man's experience on a Vermont farm commune at the height of the utopian movement. Gould, who is the recipient of the 2016 Arts Education Award from the Vermont Arts Council, has written about the Vermont back-to-the-land movement in two previous novels, Burnt Toast (Alfred A. Knopf, 1971) and Write Naked (Farrar, Straus & Giroux 2008), a young adult novel which won the 2009 National Green Earth Book Award.

Gould is a familiar face in the Northeast Kingdom, as a founder and current director of the "Get Thee to the Funnery" youth Shakespeare camp offered in Craftsbury every summer, with performances held in the gardens at Sterling College. Another of Gould's books, the novella Marley (Green Writers Press, 2015), was largely written at Sterling College while he attended a Wildbranch writing workshop.
