In this talk at the VT Genealogy Library in Ft. Ethan Allen we will discuss how Google's search engine can help locate records about your ancestors when paper research and services like Ancestry.com fail. The talk will highlight the importance of precise search terms, query syntax, and the use of special commands & operators. Searching for genealogical information presents a few unique challenges and we will cover what they are and how to develop search strategies to deal with them. At the end of this talk you will approach online searches with more confidence, have several more search techniques in your "Google Toolbox" and possess advanced search skills to help you deal more effectively with your brickwalls.
The talk will start on Saturday (Nov. 17th) at 10:30 AM and run until noon. The class fee is $10 and it will include a detailed handout plus all-day access to our 4500 books and our computers w/ subscriptions to FindMyPast, Ancestry and 4 other New England & Quebec databases. Volunteers will be available for assistance.
