Bach's Magnificat on Saturday, November 3, 7:30PM at the Saint Augustine Church in Montpelier, and Sunday, November 4, 3PM at the Cathedral of Saint Paul in Burlington. The performances mark the biggest event in the 19 year history of Capital City Concerts and will feature world-renowned vocal soloists including Baltimore soprano Hyunah Yu, a Bach expert and favorite at Capital City Concerts, and Montreal mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne who sings at the Metropolitan Opera, Vermont tenor Joshua Collier, Artistic Director of Barn Opera, and baritone David Tinervia, finalist at the 2016 New England Regional Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.) They will be supported by an exceptional five-part choir, and an unusually large and colorful orchestra, with strings, trumpets, flutes, oboes, timpani, organ, and harpsichord. The Magnificat is music of remarkable imagination, color, tenderness, and joy. Also on the program will be Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F major, featuring trumpeter Sycil Mathai, violinist Lucy Chapman, oboist Randall Wolfgang, and flutist Karen Kevra. The professional orchestra, conducted by Richard Riley, combines Vermont musicians with instrumentalists with ties to the New York City Ballet and Opera Orchestras, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the Orchestra of Saint Luke's.
