Proposed Parking Permit Change

Past event

Dear Neighbors,

The Ward 6 NPA meeting is this coming Thursday, November 1. Robert Goulding from DPW will be at the meeting to discuss a change to the Residential Parking Management Plan.

Currently, a property may request parking permits which include permits affixed to a resident's vehicle along with guest passes. There is no cost for any number of permits that a resident may request. As per the 2015 Residential Parking Management Study, we are the only municipality in the study group that does not charge for permits. Some cities charge as much as $50 to $100 per permit for multiple permits.

In an effort to offset some of the cost of administering the residential parking program, there is a proposal to charge $10 for each permit. This is the only change to the ordinance that is being proposed to the DPW Commission at their November meeting. The Commission will be meeting in late November and possibly voting on this change. You are welcome to come to the NPA meeting to express your perspective on this change and/or also attend the Commission meeting. The date for the Commission meeting has not been announced. It is usually the third Wednesday but may change due to Thanksgiving. You can check the date at https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/DPW/Commission/Agendas or please reach out to me.

If you are unable to make either meeting and wish to express a concern or comment about the change, please email Chapin Spencer, Director of Public Works at cspencer@burlingtonvt.gov or me and I will see that your email is forwarded to the Commission.

I hope you have a good weekend.

My best,
Karen
