National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Saturday, October 27 is NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK DAY 10am-2pm

Fall Clean Up of Old Medications! Gather up and dispose of expired or unused drugs which should not be flushed down the toilet, washed down the drain, composted, or left around the house. Proper disposal helps avoid harming water sources, wildlife, pets, and people. It also helps to prevent theft and misuse by others. This Take Back Day happens twice a year as a reminder to Clear out your Medicine Cabinet of "Vermont's Most Dangerous Leftovers."

• Montpelier Police Department, 1 Pitkin Court, Montpelier, VT
• Barre City Police Department, 15 Fourth Street, Barre City, VT
• Northfield Police Department, 110 Wall Street, Northfield, VT
• Vermont State Police Middlesex, 1080 Route 2, Middlesex, VT

In case you don't want to wait or can't make it on October 27th, there are year-round, permanent safe disposal drop boxes located now located at Central VT Medical Center lobby near the main entrance, and at Kinney Pharmacies in Waterbury and Waitsfield, as well as at the Washington County Sheriff's Department, the Police Stations in Barre City, Barre Town, Berlin, Montpelier, and Northfield. Stop by during business hours.

Central Vermont New Directions works with the Vermont Department of Health and partner organizations to help to prevent prescription drug abuse. Washington County Sheriff W. Samuel Hill has coordinated 5 collection sites within Washington County. These sites are staffed by local and state police and the sheriff's department for people to safely, and anonymously, drop off medications.
