Capital City Concerts presents J.S. Bach's Magnificat on Sunday, November 4, 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Cathedral in Burlington. This all-Bach concert features world-renowned vocal soloists (including soprano Hyunah Yu, a favorite at Capital City Concerts, and mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne, who sings frequently at the Metropolitan Opera), an exceptional five-part choir, and an unusually large and colorful orchestra, with strings, trumpets, flutes, oboes, timpani, organ, and harpsichord. In total, upwards of sixty musicians will be involved. The Magnificat is music of remarkable imagination, color, and tenderness. Though conceived on a grand scale, it is a compact work of just over 30 minutes.

Also on the program will be Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F major, featuring Sycil Mathai (trumpet), Karen Kevra (flute), Randall Wolfgang (oboe), and Lucy Chapman (violin), plus arias including Süsser Trost, the Benedictus qui venit from the Mass in B minor, and Erbarme dich from the St. Matthew Passion.

The professional orchestra, conducted by Richard Riley, combines Vermont musicians with instrumentalists from the New York City Ballet and Opera Orchestras, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the Orchestra of Saint Luke's.

The concert will also be offered on Saturday, November 3, 7:30 p.m. at St. Augustine Church in Montpelier. For more information and to charge tickets ($15-$25) go to www.capitalcityconcerts.org. Tickets also available at the door and in person at Bear Pond Books, Montpelier (cash or check only).
