Live Music and Contradancing Saturday!

Past event
Oct 20, 2018, 8 to 11 PM

Please join us for dancing and fun at the Capital City Grange Hall in Berlin on Saturday night, October 20. We'll be starting off with a lesson for newcomers about 7:30 PM, followed by dancing from 8:00 to 11:00. Vermont caller Don Stratton, who has called across the state and region, will teach the newcomers' session, and also will teach and call the dances for the whole evening. Don has been part of the Mad Robin Callers' Collective, a VT-based group that has brought together local people who want to improve their contra dance calling. He also plays fiddle with the Red Dog Riley dance band! You can find out more at: http://don-stratton.com/calling5.php

Hot, swinging, live music will be provided by "Audrey and Clayton", featuring Audrey Budington on fiddle, and Clayton Clemetson on piano. New England-based, these musicians play across the region and the country. Check out their Facebook page for samples of their music and more information: https://www.facebook.com/pg/Audrey-and-Clayton-799712066715540/posts/?ref=page_internal . You can see them playing for many dances on their page, including recent appearances at Glen Echo in Maryland, and many other locations. And there are lots of other videos of this duo playing traditional and new tunes online as well.

Contra dances are 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays 8–11 p.m. at the Capital City Grange Hall in Berlin. Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for kids or low-income, $15.00 for dance supporters–choose the right price for your budget! We suggest light, comfortable clothing, and bring a water bottle to refill at our water fountain/bottle filler. And please bring clean, soft-soled shoes, to help us protect our beautiful dance floor.

We are a friendly and open dance community! Beginners, singles, and all ages are welcome; all dances are taught. Whoever you are, we invite you to come share the joy of dancing with us! Capital City Grange Hall is at 6612 Rt. 12, Berlin VT 05602. It's about 1 mile south of Montpelier, just beyond the I-89 overpass if you are coming from the north, and just before the overpass if you are coming from the south.
