Burlington City Arts announces a new exhibition at the BCA Center on Church Street, Tectonic Industries: Dreams Can Come True (If It’s Not Working For You, You’re Not Doing It Right.)

The exhibition opens Friday, October 19 from 6-8 p.m. All are welcome and admission is free.

Tectonic Industries is a collaborative art partnership based in Portland, Maine. Through sculptural installation, instructional videos, surveys, and interactive activities that engage visitors, Tectonic Industries examines the inherent artifice of our belief systems shaped by popular culture. In Dreams Can Come True, the artists provide video questionnaires that offer to address and solve visitors’ most pressing problems, and thus help them to begin living the “life of their dreams.” Guided by a series of instructions, visitors navigate the installation in search of self-actualization which can be manifested in one of six models they can build and leave in the gallery. Balancing wry amusement with critical reflection, Dreams Can Come True is an immersive arts experience that reveals our collective, endless search for concrete answers and endeavor for self-improvement.

Artist Bio
Tectonic Industries is a collaborative art partnership of the Danish artist Lars Boye Jerlach and the British artist Helen Stringfellow. The members met in Edinburgh College of Art whilst both pursuing MFA’s in Sculpture. Recognizing overlaps in ideas and approaches to artmaking, they began collaborating in 1999. They moved from Europe to the USA in 2001 and were based in Minneapolis for 11 years. After living in Auckland, New Zealand for sixteen months, the duo returned to the United States in January 2014 and now live and work in Portland, Maine.
