Burlington City Arts announces a new exhibition at The BCA Center on Church Street Pauline Jennings’ Becoming Human the second installment in BCA’s Project Vermont series. The Opening Reception at BCA Center will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 6-8pm

In her solo exhibition, Becoming Human, Pauline Jennings critiques the dichotomous relationship forming between human and wild in the Anthropocene era. Her three-channel video and sound installation The Air Connects Us, captures two dancers’ chaotic search for nourishing connection in the urban landscape of Shanghai.
Pauline Jennings' Becoming Human was directed by Double Vision choreographer and co-Artistic Director Pauline Jennings. Becoming Human is a collaboration with Calvin Aham and Joshua Lacourse (movement), Sean Clute (music composition), Jessica Gomula (video direction), Stefan Jacobs (lighting design), Amy Nielson (costume design), Allen Hahn (cinematography), Jack B. Du (photography).

Biography
Currently based in Jericho, VT, Pauline Jennings teaches dance at Saint Michael’s College. With her MFA in Dance Choreography and Performance from Mills College, she returned as a Visiting Artist for the Mills College Dance Department’s Repertory Dance Company in 2008-2009 and has lectured and taught master classes at the University of Applied Arts (Vienna), University of California at Berkeley, Arizona State University, Amherst College, Dartmouth College, University of Maine, College of Santa Fe, and University of New Mexico.

Project Vermont
Becoming Human is the second installment of Project Vermont, a new series dedicated to experimentation by providing a setting for contemporary Vermont artists to push their artistic practice while creating new work. Through visual, performance, and interdisciplinary exploration, Project Vermont supports emerging and established artists to explore new ideas and challenges, enables innovation, and fosters engagement between audience and artist.

BCA’s exhibitions are core offerings of Burlington City Arts, celebrating over 30 years of supporting the arts, and dedicated to the promotion of excellence, experimentation, and education in all forms of contemporary art.
