Black True-Story Event Sponsored by Racism Kills Dreams in VT Network, Hosted by St. Albans Historical Museum, St. Albans, VT 05478, February 28, 2014, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

As part of its Local History Lecture Series, the St. Albans Historical Society and Museum will be holding a special event to honor Black History Month, hosted by the Racism Kills Dreams in Vermont Network, on February 28, 2014, from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., at the St. Albans Historical Museum, 9 Church St., St. Albans, VT 05478. Program highlights will include featured speaker Reuben Jackson (musician, poet, jazz historian, and Vermont educator). Reuben was curator of the Duke Ellington Collection at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, for more than 20 years. His music reviews have been published in the Washington Post, Washington City Paper, All About Jazz, Jazz Times, Jazziz, and on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered. Reuben is also a mentor with The Young Writers Project. The evening will also feature a youth dramatization, “A Special Tribute to Vermont’s Early Black Residents,” by Ebony Nyoni. Racism Kills Dreams in Vermont Network is a grassroots organization designed to end the debilitating effects of racism on individuals, families, and communities through the collaborative efforts of Vermont citizens leading the charge.
