WORDS MATTER: A CIVILITY CAFE: Is Civility Dead?
Community, Religion, and the Virtues of a Healthy Democracy - These days a lot of people are lamenting the death of civility in American politics. But some social critics argue that civility is overrated at best and dangerous at worst, because standards of political decorum stifle political protest just when it is needed most. In this talk, Professor James Calvin Davis of Middlebury College will consider what the concept of civility really means, why we need it, and where we should look for it if we are going to bring health to our democracy. Monday, October 29, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Charlotte Congregational Church (403 Church Hill Rd). Come for dessert, presentation and conversation with Professor Davis. Free and open to the public. Co-sponsored by Charlotte Congregational Church, Charlotte Library and Rokeby Museum. Call 802-425-3176 or visit charlotteucc.org for more information.
