Have you ever wondered what it was like to hike the Long Trail a hundred years ago?
On Thursday, October 18th GMC Executive Director & Middlebury native Mike DeBonis will tell tales from his 2017 trek entitled "Wool Knickers and White Blazes, A 1917 Inspired End-to-End Long Trail Hike", celebrating one hundred years of the Long Trail Guidebook. His talk will be held at the Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist meeting room at 7:00PM. You'll enjoy the fun of hiking the trail in 1917 but without the wool, bugs, and canned fish.
As a kid growing up in Middlebury, Mike was fascinated by the idea of carrying everything you need on your back and walking someplace new every day. He can remember poring over the 1971 guidebook, imagining what it would be like to hike the whole trail. When he finally got his chance in 1996, the experience was better than he had imagined.
Open to the public. Refreshments served. Admission is free, however voluntary donations to support the GMC Education Program will be accepted. We hope you can join us! More details at www.gmcbreadloaf.org
