More details: The latest Youth Risk Behavior Survey shows that rates of suicide ideation and depression among our youth is heart-wrenchingly high. 14% of Burlington middle school students and 25% of Burlington High School students report that they felt so sad or hopeless almost every day for two weeks or more in a row that they stopped doing some usual activities (past year). 13% of middle school students report that they ever seriously thought about killing themselves. 10% of BHS students made a plan about how they would attempt suicide (past year).
While these rates are extremely difficult to learn about, it is important to remember that depression is a treatable illness.
