Dear Friends and Neighbors,
FREE community events this Saturday and Sunday afternoons (October 13 and 14) at the Clemmons Family Farm in Charlotte:
UGANDAN DRUMMING AND CULTURE!
Saturday October 13 from 3 PM to 4:30 PM: A musical book signing with the AMAZING Damascus Kafumbe, who is launching his brand new book on Ugandan drumming and culture: "Tuning the Kingdom". Bring a check or cash along to buy a signed copy of Damascus's book (on sale for $35.00). Even if you don't want to buy a book, come over anyway and listen to Damascus's presentation about Ugandan culture, music and politics, and bring a drum along to learn some of the wonderful beats from Uganda. This will be a fun break from our own national politics and will give everyone a chance to unwind, dance, beat something that makes music, and enjoy each other's company! Once again, this event is FREE but admission is limited to 35 people. Sign up here: http://bit.ly/CFFTuningtheKingdom
AFRO-CARIBBEAN MUSIC AND CULTURE!
Sunday October 14 from 4 PM - 5:30 PM: Judi Emanuel Family and Friends will hold a highly interactive community engagement workshop that blends performance with teaching participants about Afro-Caribbean lyrics and melodies linked to Jamaican Mento, Ska, hypnotic Rasta drums and undeniable reggae rhythms that communicate the real meaning of Bob Marley's 'one love, one heart' philosophy. They are South Burlington residents, new members of our Vermont community and multi-generational: Judi (the mom), Mike Senior (the dad) and their high-school-age daughter and son form the ensemble along with Eric Sample (a Champlain College music instructor). This fabulous group brings us the warmth of the Caribbean and the power of Afro-Caribbean beats to enhance our community social well-being (which I think we could all use a good dose of right about now). This event is FREE but admission is limited to 35 people-- we are trying to get a blend of folks from the six towns covered by the ArtPlace America funding: Charlotte, Shelburne, Hinesburg, South Burlington, Burlington and Winooski although of course ALL are welcome regardless of where you live. Happening on Sunday October 14 from 4 PM- 5:30 PM, sign up here: http://bit.ly/1Heart1LoveatCFF
We hope to see you on October 13 and/or 14 at the Farm for music and community-building!
