Yvonne Daley is a book author, journalist, publisher, and a gardener, pie-making mother of many. She lived the hippie days in hippie ways. She is director of Vermont's Green Mountain Writers Conference. Her new book Going Up the Country: When the Hippies, Dreamers, Freaks, and Radicals Moved to Vermont has been a smash hit, selling out repeatedly at Sandy's Books & Bakery. The book is part oral history, part nostalgia-tinged narrative and part clear-eyed analysis of the multifaceted phenomena collectively referred to as the counterculture movement in Vermont. It is the story of the people and the times that that brought hippies, back-to-the-landers, political radicals, sexual libertines, and utopians to a previously conservative state and continued a farm-to-table way of life with land based living and progressive politics. She has an awesome slideshow of freaks in the woods, too. This FREE public event is co-sponsored by Sandy's Books & Bakers at the Rochester Public Library. Thursday, October 11th at 7:00.
