A single revival performance of the 1991 play, "True as Steel," who lived in Guilford & Brattleboro two centuries ago, will be given this Thursday, October 11, at 118 Elliot in Brattleboro. The 7:30 pm staged reading is admission-free, and is this year's Words Project, opening the Brattleboro Literary Festival weekend.
Christina Gibbons of West Brattleboro and I put this play together for the Vermont Bicentennial, and it was performed in both Brattleboro and Guilford. Everything spoken by the actors was written by Royal Tyler and his wife, Mary Palmer Tyler, who lived in Guilford in the 1790's and then in Brattleboro. Each is a significant literary figure, and Royall Tyler was also Chief Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court.
Portraying Mary Palmer Tyler is actors Jenny Holan, and Royall Tyler is played by Richard Epstein. Geoffry Brown directs.
