"Come on a walk through the wild woods. ..."
The Borderlands is an annual performance event held over the two October weekends before Halloween. The mile-long trail through the woods follows the border between our world and the world of the Fey – filled with elves and fairies, wild animals and enchanting spirits. Along the route, there are over twenty performances including storytelling, dance, poetry, artwork, puppetry, singing and music. Performers range from children to professional adults. Small groups are guided through the event, which is intended to open the magic and mystery of the natural world to all ages.
2018 Borderlands focuses on the theme of Red Riding Hood, although in this story, instead of being punished for straying from the path, the girl finds her true magical power by crossing into the fairy world, where her wise grandmother is waiting for her. Together they banish the wolf who whispers discouraging thoughts that whittle away at her bravery. The trail ends with the grandmother's home, where all children feel unconditionally loved.
Tickets are $10 for children (ages 2 to 12) and $15 for adults. They are reserved by time slot at the Treewild.org website.
Performances are October 20-21, 27-28, at Shelburne Farms. This event is cosponsored by Treewild/Way of the Bard, Shelburne Farms, Young Traditions Vermont, and Davis Studio.
