Burlington City Arts presents the A+D Film Series: My Architect: A Son's Journey
About the film
Directed by Nathaniel Kahn
2003, USA, 116 Minutes
My Architect: Portrait of the architect legend Louis Kahn and his private life from the point of view of his illegitimate son.
In 1974, an old man died almost unnoticed in New York’s Pennsylvania Station. It takes two days for the police to determine that the dead man is Louis I. Kahn, the most important contemporary architect.
About two decades later, Nathaniel Kahn, the illegitimate son of the deceased, sets out to fathom his father’s adventurous biography of the early escape from the Jewish ghetto in Estonia about the late appointment as an architect at the age of 50 years to death in dire poverty.
In interviews with colleagues, critics and, above all, numerous love affairs, not only a fascinating personal history but half a century of modern culture awakens to an exciting life.
Nathaniel Kahn, one of the illegitimate sons of world-famous architect Louis Kahn, always hoped as a child that his father would one day live with him and his mother. But Louis Kahn never left his wife – instead, he was found dead one day in a men’s room at a New York subway station when Nathaniel was eleven years old. As an adult, Nathaniel decides to travel the world in search of his father’s buildings, meeting his business associates, colleagues, students, wives, and children.
