Exploring the Psyche Seminar Series

Past event
Oct 1, 2018, 6:30 to 8 PM

Dear friends and Colleagues,

"Exploring the Psyche" Seminar Series at Kellogg-Hubbard Library: Monday evenings 6:30 - 8:00 p.m, facilitated by Peter Burmeister, M.A., Psychotherapist.

The past few weeks has provided an introduction to the basics of consciousness studies through psychoanalysis.

The seminal work of Dr. Freud has brought us to the point where we can perhaps see the benefits of this life-long means of exploring the psyche, which is the title of our seminar series.

Tomorrow, Monday October 1, we will examine another aspect of our in-depth study: the "dark side" of psychoanalytic technique as it was and continues to be followed by a significant branch of Sigmund Freud's followers. We will introduce ourselves to the often-bizarre, but fascinating career of Freud's little-known American nephew who, in a lifespan of more than 100 years, has influenced nearly every aspect of contemporary life both in the USA and abroad.

If there is sufficient time, we will also begin our study of the work of C.G. Jung, an early follower of Freud, who later broke with his mentor and founded his own school of analytical psychology.

Please note that the library is closed a week from Monday, Oct. 8, for Columbus/Indigenous People's Day, so there will be no class that day. We will resume our work together the following Monday, Oct. 15. The series concludes Monday, October 22.

I look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
