Vermont Shakespeare Festival presents of Mary Stuart Sunday, October 7, 3 p.m. at the McCarthy Arts Center, St. Michael's College
Vermont Shakespeare Festival presents the U.S. premiere of Friedrich Schiller's Mary Stuart in a new version by David Harrower. Presented as a staged reading, this is the latest installment in Vermont Shakespeare Festival's Salon Series. A rarely seen epic in a fresh and lean adaptation, this is the only classical play starring two women in power. In a country torn apart by public dissent, terrorism, greed, lust, and pride, two queens fight to the death in this political thriller. 400 years later, the intrigue and violence of Mary Stuart feels ripped from today's headlines.
