“Folks were nearly falling out of their seats laughing. And, yet, the lyrical beauty came through in spades – delivering the tender romance of this bel canto favorite.” (Jim Lowe, The Rutland Herald)
Set in a Gatsby-esque bar in the 1920s, Opera Company of Middlebury shakes up a cocktail of romance and hijinks in L’Elisir d’Amore (The Elixir of Love). A con artist convinces a town that his strange concoction can cure any ill – and can even make other people fall in love with you. Tucked into the laughter is one of the most famous tenor arias of all time, the haunting ballad “Una furtiva lagrima.” Fans will recognize OCM veteran performers: tenor Joshua Collier (Turandot, Il Trittico) and soprano Bevin Hill (The Magic Flute, Gianni Schicchi),as well as an ensemble of favorite singers, in a fizzy romantic evening of laughs and libations.
