Join author, avid hiker and Ferrisburgh resident Judy Chaves for a "virtual" hike up Mt. Philo - Sunday, September 23 at 3 p.m. at Rokeby Museum.
After hiking and researching the history of Mt. Philo for years, Judy has recently published a guidebook to mountain and park. She'll share her extensive knowledge with both contemporary and historic images, some from the Rokeby collection. The landscape history of Mt. Philo, Vermont's first state park, is the landscape history of Vermont, in miniature.
"Sheep fever," the devastating deforestation of the mid-1800s, Vermont's early tourism industry, the early conservation and park movements, reforestation… it's all there on the mountain, if you know where to look. Copies of the guidebook will be available for purchase, and Judy will be happy to sign yours.
