On September 29, County Forester Ethan Tapper will lead a walk in the HTF to discuss forestry practices in our area, timber harvesting, and the challenges to maintaining a healthy and resilient forest environment. Please join us to learn about the Hinesburg Town Forest's Forest Management Plan and the management activities that are scheduled for this coming winter and their anticipated impacts.
Join Ethan on Saturday, September 29, between 1:00 and 3:00. Meet at the Hayden Hill West parking lot at 1:00. Wear or bring clothing appropriate for being out in whatever weather conditions we find and footwear for walking on variable terrain.
Management of select forest stands in the Hinesburg Town Forest (HTF) is scheduled for winter 2018-19 in accordance with the HTF's Forest Management Plan. This harvest will encourage species and structural diversity, improve the overall health and resiliency of the forest, and improve wildlife habitat opportunities at the HTF. The temporary closure of some trails in the harvest area for the winter will be necessary for safety reasons. The Economou Road trailhead will also be closed during the harvest. The other trails and trailheads will remain open.
In preparation for the harvest, orange flagging tape has been put in place. Please respect that work.
