Platt Memorial Library in Shoreham is pleased to host Bill Mares on Wednesday, September 19th at 7pm to deliver his talk: "Bees Besieged: A History of Beekeeping." Beekeeping goes back 10,000 years, but bees have been much in the news recently as a multi-pronged scourge has devastated many of the nation's 2.5 million colonies. Meanwhile, hobby beekeeping has grown exponentially in the country. Bill Mares, writer, and a beekeeper for 45 years, will tell of the origins and evolution of beekeeping, with particular emphasis on his research in Vermont.
This event is free, open to the public, and accessible to those with mobility issues. Contact Abby Adams at platt@shoreham.net or 897-2647 for more information. Light refreshments will be served.
This program is part of the Orwell and Shoreham Libraries Keynote Speaker's Series: Flora and Fauna of Vermont and is presented by the Vermont Humanities Council Speakers Bureau under a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
