The Monkton Museum and Historical Society (MM&HS) will host the presentation "Vermont vs. Hollywood: 100 Years of Vermont in Film" on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Monkton Fire Station, 3747 State's Prison Hollow Road. The event is free, open to the public, and accessible those with disabilities. There will be refreshments too!
Vermont has been a featured location in Hollywood movies for nearly a century. It has represented many different ideals during that time, and its portrayal reflects both Vermont's own history as well as American history. Examining those films provides interesting and fun insights into the hold Vermont has had on imagination in the media age. Amanda Kay Gustin of the Vermont Historical Society will provide background and share clips ranging chronologically from 1919's "Way Down East" to 2005's "Thank You for Smoking."
The presentation is a Vermont Humanities Council (VHC) Speakers Bureau event under grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the NEH or VHC.
